about
This song has been alive but dormant for quite a while now, and I’m really proud to finally release it.
I played around with a variety of metaphors for ‘the music industry,’ and finally landed on the idea of drinking something down because you THINK it’ll do something for you in the long run, rather than because you just really enjoy it and want the full flavor. The song references all those coffee meetings/industry-esque events where you’re consistently asked about your goals as an artist, your brand and marketing plan, your visions for the future.. and you just leave feeling kind of sick and stupid. Don’t get me wrong, these things are MAD important (for a certain style of success)— but they’re NOT everything, and mustn’t represent everything.
Making music doesn’t have to look like one thing. It can be ANYTHING you want! I’ve recently resolved - almost entirely - to just write, play and release things for fun. To put out what I’d like to eventually come back, and hope for the best. To make money other ways. If that makes me goalless in the eyes of this industry, then I’m fuckin’ goalless baby!! I’m so ready to stop apologizing for that.
Nothing fits the way we want it to and the only way I’m finding to be happy is to accept that truth with courageous and loving arms. It kinda sucks but it kinda rocks. I’m down to work hard — but for me and you, not them!
lyrics
I’m late to meet you
It’s a quarter past ten
I’ve been up forever
But I just got outta bed
I swear I care about the things we planned
But don’t force my hand
I don’t read, I scan through
I’ve been wishing
Always fishing for the gold
But the sour in my mouth is really getting kind of old
Knocking elbows with the A team
On best behavior I’m a day dream
They don’t know
No one here knows how to holiday
No one drinks the juice because they like the taste
Yeah I’ll call you if I ever make it home
If I ever draft the message
If I ever know my goal
I wish I cared, I wish I gave my word
That’s just shit I heard
I don’t just talk, I slur too
I’ve been guessing
I’m confessing at the stand
But all the lack of honesty is getting out of hand
Knocking elbows with the A team
On best behavior I’m a day dream
They don’t know
No one here knows how to holiday
No one drinks the juice because they like the taste
Shaking hands until I can’t find nowhere
In the corner still pretending I care
Saying close to something
Dropping glasses like they’re nothing
I was born with way more gumption
So I hate that I’m still here
Knocking elbows with the A team
On best behavior I’m a day dream
They don’t know
No one here knows how to holiday
No one drinks the juice because they like the taste
Knocking elbows with the A team
On best behavior I’m a day dream
They don’t know
No one here knows how to holiday
No one drinks the juice because they like the taste
